Women's History Tea at the Prop

The Propylaeum is excited to be hosting an Afternoon Tea on Saturday, July 20, celebrating Women’s History with a program entitled “Skirting the Issue – Indiana’s Historical Women Artists and their Search for the Time and a Place to Paint.” Professional Storyteller Stephanie Holman has been creating and sharing stories across the Hoosier state for 30 years. A past commission to tell about women artists in the Indiana History Center book, “Skirting the Issue: Stories of Indiana’s Historical Women Artists,” resulted in the tale of three Brown County artists and now has grown to include the story of Indianapolis artist Ruth Pratt Bobbs, who lived in the Prop townhouse for many years. Carol Faenzi to Speak at July Prop Night

Join us for a very special evening event Wednesday, July 17, 2019, as we host Carol Faenzi, noted author, speaker, consultant, and entrepreneur, for a presentation entitled "Ellis Island: First Day in America." Faenzi is the author of The Stonecutter’s Aria, a novel based on the true stories of her stone-carving Italian immigrant ancestors. She presents programs throughout the United States on preserving family stories and rituals many of which began on Ellis Island. Her many visits to Ellis Island will bring its rich and symbolic history to life for us. Prop Night will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the cost is $30/members, $35 non-members. Fun Friday to Tour State Library

Fun Friday will be held on July 12 at 11 a.m. and will be a tour of the Indiana State Library, an architectural gem with wonderful resources. After the tour, we will adjourn across the street to the Indiana Historical Society for lunch at the Canal Café. If you spend $8 for lunch or in the IHS gift shop you can have your parking at the IHS parking lot validated for discounted or free parking. The State Library is at 315 W Ohio, Street and the Indiana Historical Society is at 450 W Ohio. The IHS parking lot is off New York Avenue, east of West Street. Put this on your calendar. Summer Events at the Prop

Summer is a great time to attend informal programs and events at the Propylaeum. The membership committee and other special events committees have been hard at work creating programs and events that appeal to a broad range of people. Our July Prop Day program will have a fun new twist—the event will be held in the evening!
