November's Letter From Our President, Susan Fasig

We are in high season for the Propylaeum and it’s truly wonderful to be in the presence of our engaging members and guests. The recent Women’s Enrichment Series was a great example.
I admit to knowing little of early childhood education in our community. Maureen Weber, President and CEO of Early Learning Indiana, and Dr. Tami Silverman, President and CEO of Indiana Youth Institute, are committed and experienced professionals taking on significant challenges to make Indiana communities better. Their eye-opening and insightful presentation highlighted the tremendous need combined with limited funding. Maureen shared that the cost to fund pre-K through the On-my-way Pre-K program is $7,000 per year per student for roughly 85,000 kids. $600 million, that’s a big ticket, but she also noted studies have estimated at least a 4:1 return on investment for the state. Indiana is fortunate to have these dedicated individuals at work and I encourage you to look for ways to support them.
Many thanks to Debra Renkens and the WES committee for their work to create such an engaging opportunity. Mark your calendar for the next WES program on February 23, 2023. In the meantime, hope to see you at Salon on November 12th. I’m breaking out the pearls! Lots of fun in store!
Sincerely,
Susan Fasig
