January Prop Day to Feature Jackie Nytes

Jackie Nytes, CEO of the Indianapolis Public Library, which has 24 branches and has a circulation of 9.6 million, will speak to Propylaeum members Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. on zoom.
The library has opened new branches in recent years on Michigan Road and in Martindale-Brightwood areas and recently bought a land parcel that was part of John Strange Elementary School for a new branch. New buildings and renovations, as well as the library's big bicentennial project that includes a digital encyclopedia will be part of Nytes' discussion. Her positions have included chief financial officer of the library, 12 years as a city-county councilman, and president of the state's economic development council.
She will talk about new trends on e-reading versus physical reading, the impacted of the pandemic, the library's pivot to virtual programming and the Library Card Project geared to every student having a library card. Recently, the library forgave more than $2 million in fines which was seen as disproportionately impacting low income patrons. She will also provide her vision for the countywide shared e-book collection for schools.
Our night with Nytes will be on zoom and can be shared with family and friends.
