Historic Preservation Month at the Propylaeum

May is Historic Preservation Month, and we have much to celebrate at the Propylaeum.

For 99 years, the women of the Propylaeum have cared for and maintained the 1891 mansion and carriage house. Our occupation of the property has been a stabilizing presence in the Old Northside Neighborhood.

According to the 2018 Historic Preservation Plan prepared by RATIO Architects, “The house is significant for its architecture as well as its association with the Indianapolis Woman’s Club. While the residential owners were all noteworthy, the Propylaeum's length of ownership and mission to educate and advance women surpasses the multiple families that resided there.”

Here are a few ways you can celebrate Preservation Month with us:

· Come tour the property. Call for an appointment 317-638-7881 ext. 4 or 5.

· Watch the History and Architecture of the Propylaeum by Dr. Jim Glass on our YouTube channel.

· Take a stroll along Delaware Street, from the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site to 16th Street, enjoying the historic character of the neighborhood.

· Find out more about the Old Northside on their website: www.oldnorthside.org.
