From the Desk of Ali Brown

Knock, knock!

I can’t believe it’s been nearly a month since I walked through those big, beautiful doors, on my first day as Executive Director. Those doors, their weight and beauty, are a gateway to so much more than just a old mansion. I was awestruck at the beauty of the tree, planted firmly, with strong roots and leaves reaching to the sun.

The doors have received some of the most important and influential women in Indiana history. They lead to halls walked by suffragists and scrappers who have created a better future for all of us. The weight of those doors and this building are not lost on me.

You may notice a lot of references to doors in this newsletter. I mean, of course our logo is a set of opening doors and Propylaeum means gateway in Greek. But the doors you will be reading about are about stepping into a new future for our organization, while respecting our rich history.

We have a lot of new and exciting things going on. We are planning our 100 Year Anniversary at 1410 N Delaware (read more on page 4), launching our Young Professionals Committee, and welcoming prospective members through our threshold. All of these events are about strengthening the organization and charting our course for the next 100 years.

As I begin my journey as your Executive Director, I will continue to take inspiration from those doors, with their tree rooted firmly in the past and their leaves reaching towards a bright future. I hope to see you come through them soon!

Yours in sisterhood,

Ali Brown

Executive Director, The Propylaeum Historic Foundation
