A Century of Sisterhood at 1410 N Delaware
How do you even begin to tell the story of the Indianapolis Propylaeum?
In 2023, our organization will have been in existence for 135 years. It almost seems unimaginable that nearly five generations of women have joined us with the goal of making women’s lives better, whether through advocating for the right to vote or through making space and giving women room at the table in the arts and cultural world of Indianapolis and more broadly, Indiana. So much of what we have accomplished as an organization is about making space. That is why our own space is so important.
While 1410 N Delaware was not our first home, in 2023 we will be here for a century. Think of the women who have walked these halls, those who have plotted and schemed, those who have lived and fought, those who have blazed trails that we are still using. The importance of our mansion, our ‘clubhouse’, is immense.
That is why, after years of pandemic, where we are unable to gather under our roof, we plan to celebrate our 100 years at 1410 N Delaware in style. Our mansion, if her walls could talk, would tell us of the women we must celebrate. So for them we must.
We are kicking off on November 9th, at 2pm, with our Ribbon Tying Ceremony. This ceremony, which will feature
organizations and people who have been directly impacted by the Propylaeum and our members, will symbolically tie our past and our future together. The program will have brief speeches followed by a semi-guided walk through of the mansion which will have displays of past and current connections to many sister and daughter organizations that have the Propylaeum and it’s members have given rise to.
On Saturday, November 12th at 5pm, the Salon Society Gala is back with a roaring 20 s theme. The Gala will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, live jazz music from Teresa Reynolds and the Slicktones, an art auction, wine pull, envelope pull, and a walk through time featuring our connection displays. Tickets are limited for this event and are going very fast. Buy your tickets for the Salon Society Gala today at https://tinyurl.com/PropSalon22.
Throughout 2023, we will be celebrating our 100 years at 1410 N Delaware through programs and events. There will be a new speaker series entitled Anonymous: Unsung Hoosier Heroines, focused on the women who have made great impacts but haven’t had their stories told. Keep a lookout for our 2023 calendar in the December newsletter for all of this series and all our events to come.
