Suffrage Artwork on Display

On your next trip to the Propylaeum, bes ure to see this beautiful oil painting on display. Local artist Roberta Avidor created this piece of art to commemorate the suffrage centennial. Avidor, who has been to the Prop many times, created the piece as part of the

Hoosier Women Artists 2020 competition with the Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission.

The women represented are three who were very active in the Indiana suffrage movement: Carrie Barnes, May Wright Sewell, and Eleanor Barker. At the bottom of the piece is the original Propylaeum and a yellow rose which was a symbol of the movement.

Avidor was born in Indianapolis, moved to Michigan at a young age, attended art school in New York City before moving to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota. Avidor has recently come full circle by returning to Indianapolis.
