Suffragists at the Statehouse

January 16, 2020, one hundred years to the day that Indiana ratified the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, suffragists again walked the halls of the state capitol. The Indiana Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission organized a day at the statehouse that included speeches by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch as well as Dr. Anita Morgan author of “An Act of Tardy Justice :” The Story of Woman’s Suffrage in Indiana. The Indianapolis Women’s Chorus provided entertainment. Sessions of both the House of Representatives and Senate passed unanimous resolutions to recognize the event. Suffragists from the Propylaeum were joined by Indianapolis organizations, members of the General Assembly, and others from throughout the state, drawing special attention to the commemoration of Indiana's ratification.
