Suffragists Represented at Opening Reception

Propylaeum suffragists made a statement at the opening reception for the Indiana Historical Society’s Festival of Trees held on November 15. The Propylaeum sponsored tree, “The Suffragists Gift,” was designed by Bev Watkins. Cindy Dillman assisted with decorations and Diane Tolliver assisted with research on Indiana suffragists.

Propylaeum’s founder May Wright Sewall, and others are highlighted in framed photos filling the tree decorated in appropriate colors of purple, white, and gold.

Cindy Dillman, Bev Watkins, Sherry Watkins, and Nora Spitznogle portrayed suffragists and posed for photos, answered questions, and encouraged attendees to “Vote for Tree #9” throughout the evening. Many Propylaeum members and friends attended the reception in support of this beautiful monument to women’s suffrage.
