100 Years on Delaware Street 1923-2023

In 2023 the Indianapolis Propylaeum will have been housed at 1410 N. Delaware Street for 100 years. The original Propylaeum building was located on North Street, but after WWI the city wanted the land as part of the War Memorial Plaza. Mary Stewart Carey, President of the Propylaeum, oversaw the purchase and relocation of the Propylaeum to our current location.

To commemorate this important centennial, plans are underway for a full year of programs celebrating the history and significance of the Propylaeum.

We will also be collecting stories and memorabilia to share throughout the year. If you have a story or item that you would like to share, perhaps handed down from you mother, grandmother or other, we would love to hear from you.
