The Indianapolis Propylaeum
Historic Preservation
The Indianapolis Propylaeum values the historic preservation of original architecture in Indiana and upholds this value by maintaining the historic integrity of our 1890s mansion. We believe that preservation creates a strong sense of place and adds to the architectural and visual richness of the community by displaying the roots of its character and diversity. Additionally, we feature Historic Preservation topics and discussion at some of our programming.
Historic Neighborhoods of Indianapolis
Historic Neighborhoods of Indianapolis is a series presented by the Propylaeum focusing on different historic neighborhoods of Indianapolis. From Meridian Place, to Ransom Place, to Lockerbie, and more. Local experts and enthusiasts will discuss the history, architecture, and historical significance neighborhoods throughout Indianapolis and will share photos and stories from past and present.
Tour Our Historic Mansion

The mansion was built in 1890, and after three residential owners, the women of the Indianapolis Propylaeum moved in. Most of the home has been maintained for historic integrity, and a 1994 restoration project uncovered even more charming features and unique, hand-crafted details. The mansion is available for tours during normal business hours, and a virtual tour is available here. Please give us a call ahead of time if you plan to come in for a tour!
Holiday open house

Each December we kick-off the holiday season by throwing open the doors and inviting the community to tour our beautifully decorated mansion. The evening includes musical performance, drinks, and hors d'oeuvres.
Stay tuned for this year's annual Holiday Open House!
