Arts and Culture
Arts and cultural Programs are a foundational element of the Indianapolis Propylaeum, as the place for women to learn, connect and grow. The Propylaeum has always been a supporter of the arts, especially the performing arts, and 'Propylaeum' translates to "Gateway to Culture."
Women's Literary Tea
Each year the Propylaeum hosts an annual tea celebrating a literary work written by a woman, and often on a topic relative to women as well. A presentation on the subject, often by the author herself accompanies a delicious afternoon tea. Our beautiful mansion is the perfect backdrop to cultivate an environment for a delectable tea served on real china and with silver teapots, and featuring our unique mismatched tea cups. Past tea speakers include Indianapolis author Kassie Ritman, and Hoosier author and artist Carol Ann Weiss.
Prop Day Lunch and Learn
Every month the Indianapolis Propylaeum hosts a mid-day lunch and learn event called Prop Day. Every month we select a different speaker to give a half-hour presentation on their subject matter of expertise, and allow time for questions from the audience. These programs also act as our monthly meetings to allow the Propylaeum to provide information on our upcoming events and general happenings. Prop Day Lunch and Learns are currently virtual via Zoom and free.
