Program Encourages Reading Writing Service
April 29, 2014
Sixth Grade Students from Lebanon Middle School became the first students in the State of Indiana to complete the Student Leadership Program (SLP). This month long program encourages reading, writing and service skills in order to achieve a reward of a celebratory lunch at The Indianapolis Propylaeum. Members of the Propylaeum host students for lunch while teaching etiquette, goal setting and conversation skills. These students will continue next year with the 7th grade curriculum.
Lebanon Mayor “Huck” Lewis joined the group of over 100 students in celebrating their achievements. “What a proud day it is to see all of these students and honor their achievements. Lebanon has the distinction of being the first city in the nation to participate in this program. It is encouraging that over half of our sixth graders qualified for this achievement. “
SLP (Student Leadership Program) was founded by The Indianapolis Propylaeum to encourage student leaders, etiquette and community involvement in the spirit of Mae Wright Sewell , who not only founded The Propylaeum, but was instrumental in Hoosier Women getting the right to vote. Eleven other schools will be chosen to become SLP schools in the 2014-2015 school years.
